Since 2013, Young Breeds has been at the fore of promoting children and youth development in communities in Nigeria. It is registered as an incorporated trustee (CAC/IT/No83531) with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria. The primary focus @YoungBreeds is to raise young people as new breeds by instilling relevant and age-appropriate life skills through non-formal education for responsible adulthood and holistic development. Research shows that there are almost 200 million youths in Africa and, according to African Economic Outlook that number will double by 2045.
In Nigeria, more than half its people are under 30 years of age. This in itself should be a great asset if and only, when young people receive the needed guidance, grooming and mentoring as they grow unto adulthood. This is the root of our motivation, hinged primarily on eradicating the life skills deficiency amongst young people, specifically in their career, ethics and lifestyle. The resultant effect of this widening gap is seen in challenges such as juvenile delinquency, social misconducts, wrong career choices, unemployment and an ill-equipped youth population.
Our belief is entrenched on the philosophy that, addressing the grassroots will influence the tree and ultimately the fruits. The grass roots are young people, children and teenagers as they grow unto adulthood.
According to UNICEF, "Education that helps young people develop LIFE SKILLS has transformative potential and life skill based education enables individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.”
We desire to see well-groomed, well-rounded youths. We believe that, for education to be quality, it should affect all spheres of life, and not just academics alone. The medieval educational delivery has somewhat positioned young people to have a dependency mentality. Today, many young people think education is just about passing examinations, taking a degree, getting married and settling down, but there is a wider expanse to it.
